About Focus Bear
Focus Bear is a productivity app built for humans with spicy brains — especially ADHDers and Autistics. We help our users do the stuff they want to do (but often struggle to start): stick to routines, avoid distractions, and actually show up on time.
The app blocks tempting websites, nudges users through their morning routine (hello movement and mindfulness), and gives high-intensity reminders for meetings — all designed to support executive functioning without overwhelming the user.
We’re on a mission to make productivity tools that actually work for neurodivergent folks — no shame, no hustle culture, just support that meets people where they’re at. We’re not all the way there yet — crafting a truly calming, low-friction experience is our current design challenge, and we’d love your help to get it right.
What You’ll Be Doing
🎯 Your Mission:
- Redesign and refine key flows in the Focus Bear app (onboarding, routines, focus modes, etc.)
- Build wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma
- Conduct user testing with real users and translate insights into practical improvements
- Collaborate with Mia (our lead designer), PMs, and devs to bring features to life
- Learn how we do UX at Focus Bear and apply your skills to live product work
What You’ll Get Out of It
- 🎯 Real-world experience designing for neurodivergent users
- 🧪 Hands-on practice running user tests (yep, you’ll talk to real humans!)
- 🧰 Design feedback and mentoring from Mia, our lead designer
- 💬 Weekly team check-ins, async collaboration, and plenty of support
- 🧠 A deeper understanding of accessible, inclusive, user-centred design
You’re a Great Fit If...
- ✅ You’ve completed a UX subject/unit or have solid project experience
- ✅ You’re confident using Figma (auto layout, components, prototypes, the whole shebang)
- ✅ You understand UX fundamentals (user flows, heuristics, accessibility basics)
- ✅ You’re excited to run user testing sessions and learn from real feedback
- ✅ You want to design tech that helps, not hinders — especially for neurodivergent users
A Week in the Life
You’ll spend your week designing new features in Figma, iterating on feedback, and collaborating with the team to solve UX challenges. You’ll join standups, jam with Mia, and get involved in user testing to see what’s working — and what needs fixing. No hypothetical projects here: this is real work on a real app.
Skills You’ll Build 🛠️
You’ll level up in:
- Wireframing and prototyping in a real product environment
- Inclusive, accessible UX for ADHD and autistic users
- Running usability sessions and making sense of feedback
- Working with devs and PMs to ship designs
- Navigating an agile, async-first team culture
Internship Vibe
This is a hands-on internship for current students who already know the UX basics and are ready to apply them. You’ll get a primer on how we approach UX at Focus Bear and support from our team — but you’ll also be expected to jump in and contribute from the start.
