Role Overview & Impact

As a Mac App Developer Intern at Focus Bear, you’ll contribute directly to improving our macOS application. You’ll develop new features, fix bugs, and ensure the app performs smoothly. Your work will help deliver a seamless and consistent user experience across platforms, supporting neurodivergent users in building better habits.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Tasks

  • Enhance the Focus Bear macOS app by developing and refining key features.

  • Identify and fix bugs to improve app reliability and user experience.

  • Optimise performance and ensure app stability across macOS versions.

  • Work with the development team to maintain feature parity with the mobile app.

  • Collaborate with designers to deliver visually consistent and user-friendly features.

  • Write and maintain clean, well-documented code using Swift and SwiftUI.

  • Participate in sprint planning, standups, and code reviews.

Key Objectives

  • Deliver high-quality feature updates that improve the functionality of the Mac app.

  • Contribute to the stability and responsiveness of the application.

  • Learn the end-to-end development cycle for macOS apps within a collaborative team environment.

Team Description

You’ll be embedded in the development team, working closely with our lead Mac developer, UX designers, and QA interns. The team is small, collaborative, and focused on delivering consistent user experiences across platforms. You’ll attend regular planning meetings and collaborate daily with cross-functional teammates.

Skills Required

  • Familiarity with Swift or macOS app development (preferred but not mandatory).

  • Understanding of desktop application development principles and best practices.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Willingness to learn and apply feedback in a collaborative setting.

Typical Week

  • Participate in sprint planning and daily team standups.

  • Work on feature development and debugging tasks.

  • Collaborate with the QA team to test new features and bug fixes.

  • Attend code reviews and update documentation.

  • Refactor and optimise code based on team feedback.

  • Submit updates for peer review and integrate improvements.

Skills Development

You’ll strengthen your technical skills in macOS application development, debugging, performance optimisation, and version control. You’ll gain experience writing production-ready Swift code and collaborating in an agile development environment.
